February- Hennings Ultimate- U1901

The EBay/internet Ultimate

The first contact with the original owner in Fort Collins, CO. was late in 1999 - i agreed to buy two Ultimate frames from a guy (one his own - the other belonging to his brother). Due to a virus attack on my computer, all e-mail adresses got lost, and i wasn't able to locate the guy before newyears eve 2001 - AND THE FRAMES WERE STILL THERE!!

March 2002 the shipment arrived Norway -and since then parts have been located all over the world!

The frame was originaly delivered from Yeti with a Manitou 2, YST headset and a turqouise ATAC, which also followed the frame along with a set of XT cantilevers.

Answer Hyperlite, Grafton Re-entry levers ,Yeti grips ,Selle Italia Turbo saddle (like Juli's) ,Ringlé Moby Deuce ,Ringle H2O's ,Ringlé hubs ,Ringlé quick -releases, Sun Mistral rims ,Shimano Dura-ace spin-on freewheel ,Shimano XT-short cage rear derailleur ,Shimano XTR front derailleur ,Shimano XT thumbshifters, Shimano outer and middle ring (still missing the middle) ,Shimano 737 SPD's , Slightly Used Bullseye crankset.

March- Hennings FRO

1997 FRO ChroMo - my first! (can't remember the serial)

I first spotted this frame at Sykkeldelisk in the fall of 1997, the guy in the shop told me that Yeti recently had stopped making "real" Yeti's of steel, and that i realized that if i ever should get me a Yeti made of the miracle material - THIS was my last chance .......... (up to that point i could never justify the cost, so i had to settle for t-shirts and sweaters)

I made an agreement for downpayment, and after selling a collection of U.S. banknotes in February, i brought my first Yeti home!!

The total: a race ready machine at approx 10.5 kilos!!

April- Steve's AS-R

Yeti Carbon risers, are light but strong, no other bar comes close.

MAY/JUNE Tucker's C-26 Tomac replica! Here is what he says about it

I'm finally satisfied that the bike is "close enough" to be shown on Yetifan. I'm still awaiting a new "head tube" decal which will arrive this week and will "eventually" be replacing the "motocross" pink sticker with a very very similar one that says "action magazine" underneath the word motocross. Current tires are Tioga Farmer John's which seems fairly appropriate but in reality I think he ran a "Tioga trail dawg / mud dawg" tire at the worlds race. I'm also hot on the trail for a pair of those but don't have them quite yet. I did rebuild the front wheel this week with a black Xt hub, changed out the seat/seatpost and got the C-9 sticker affixed.

Here is a picture of the frame as I originally purchased it to show the before and after which is kind of neat

Tucker says he wanted to make the C-26 as accurate as is possible.

My next project is a Raleigh Ti/Carbon Tomac restore but I'm also working on a Fro and the 24 inch Dual Tomac Yeti restore, so in another few months maybe I'll have another few pictures to share!

I finally identified what the pink sticker on the back of Johns C-26 was. Its a Motocross Action Magazine sticker. As you can see from my recent picture, Id already figured out the world motocross but the bar underneath should say the words action magazine. Will get this detail fixed eventually. So

The story goes regarding the Motocross sticker . . . Zapata Espinoza ask John Tomac back in 1990 if he'd run a Mountain bike action sticker on the bike for the race. John refused since he didnt want to upset the other mountain bike magazines, but he agreed to run a Motocross Action sticker as a compromise (Zap use to work there same publisher). Also discovered that the picture you have on your site of the Yeti C-26 with the pink decals, is actually Zaps C-26 that he had built to look like Johns bike for the magazine shoot but thats why the colors are different. Zap still has this bike in his possession. My buddy Dave Locke knows Zap as an old acquaintance and tracked down this info for me.

The C-9 tubing sticker came this week from my Decal Princess Suzie Collins from www.SuzieIllustrator.com Shes also going to replicate the motorcycle Yetiman which John custom made from two different stickers for his bike. Wont have that sticker for a bit though.

Tucker Runs www.carbonbicycles.com

The only inaccuracies at this point are the tires (different tiogas used at the race), the straddle cable hangers, and the head tube decal.

It appears either John or Yeti cut up the standard Yeti 1990 decal and affixed the head of the Yetiman, the words "Yeti" and "Cycles" on top of a Harley racing motorcycle sticker to create this custom "go-fast-look" for his head tube decal.

John ended up 4th in the DH and 6th at the XC at this event, with Greg Herbold taking the DH win and Ned Overend taking the XC race. I'm not aware of any other Yeti race bike or rider before or since to get a custom head tube decal setup on the race bike. Part of the reason this unique detail was important to get "right" on the restore!

Thanks to Pete from Cycle Shark for sharing a photo of the original head tube graphic, from which this one was replicated. Pete own's tomac's actual back up bike from this race and it's spectacular to see! What do you think of this Yeti?click here to chat about this Yeti of the Month!

July Yeti OTM

Bought it in January 1991, sold in 1994. Bought back in 2000, but it had the typical crack at the seat tubeso it was nothing more than wall-art. Finally decided to give the frame to a framebuilder for repair in May 1990. After the paint was removed it showed that also the downtube was rusted through. So we decided to replace the downtube and the seattube. Bike was repainted in desert turquoise after repair. All in all the repair cost was around 400,- Euro, but this is ok, since I can ride it again. Remember, this is one of the 71° seatube angle bikes, so it rides very differently compared to todays bikes. This is definetely an downhill rocket, great fun. Still hangs from the wall in my living room, but gets ridden from time to time now.

Parts spec was choosen for "rideability". The spec includes Bullseye Hubs, Araya Rims, Taperlite Bar, Deore XT Thumbshifters (turned upside down "Mike Kloser" Style), Panaracer Smoke/Dart tires, Turbo Saddle and first generation Ringlè Skewers. Tried to keep the parts as original 1989/1990 as possible and still keep the bike ridable without trouble. Still have Bullseye Cranks for that bike, but the Deore XT Biopace II Cranks are much better for riding

Thanks to Michael for sending in the pictures and story of his bike

November- Steve's 05 Pink AS-R

"If you go down to the woods today, your sure of a big surprise! Better known for it Dragon, last seen in the 6th Century, St. Leonard's Forest was today graced by the presence of ano"ther legendary creature: A Yeti. Our intrepid reporter managed to catch this Yeti whilst it stopped to take in the view. Or maybe it just needed a rest after climbing up the hill. Now some would say that the markings of this Yeti, predominately pink with a touch of carbon to the rear flanks, would indicate this was a young female Yeti. Whatever the truth, this is one Yeti which is sure to keep the tongues wagging during those cold dark and wet English winters
